GENERAL FAQ'S

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY JEWELLERY?

Storage is important. Always store your pieces - gemstones in particular - individually so that they don't rub together, scratch or tangle. Our jewellery box can be used to keep your pieces separate.

Other tips:- Keep jewellery in a dark, cool and dry place. Sterling silver in particular will naturally oxidise over time when exposed to air, and eventually tarnish, and the best prevention for this is to store it in a sealed bag or airtight box when not being worn. We recommend occasional cleaning of your silver jewellery to maintain shine and keep oxidation at bay.

- Don't place jewellery in direct sunlight as prolonged exposure can cause gemstones to fade and lose their colour.

- Keep creams and sprays well away from your jewellery pieces as they are particularly susceptible to damage from the effects of chemicals in perfume, hairspray, make-up, nail polish remover, body ois, sunscreen and deoderant.

- If you live in a humid climate, always store your jewellery with the enclosed packet of desiccant crystals to help avoid any tarnishing.

- Keep chains fastened at the clasp to avoid tangling.

HOW SHOULD I CLEAN MY JEWELLERY?

Clean your jewellery carefully with the soft, non-abrasive and lint-free cloth or chamois that's enclosed in your order. Doing this occasionally will help to maintain or bring back its shine. If necessary, you can use a mild washing up liquid with warm water and a soft toothbrush, then rinse with clean water and pat dry with a soft cloth.

Avoid using ‘dip’ polish or abrasive jewellery cleaners as these contain harsh chemicals and can destroy your jewellery over time.

HOW CAN I PROTECT MY JEWELLERY WHILE I'M WEARING IT?

We don't recommend swimming or showering while wearing your jewellery, and removing rings when washing hands.

Chlorine, salt water and fresh water can all damage precious metals and gemstones by dulling or eroding them. Gold and silver plated pieces are particularly susceptible to damage from chlorine, which can permanently damage or discolour them. Soapy water when bathing and showering can also leave a thin film, which makes the metal seem dull.

Some stones such as lapis lazuli can also be quite porous and shouldn’t be left immersed in water for too long. Liquids and oils can seep into the gems through the tiny cracks between the crystals, causing permanent discolouration and damage. Because of this we also don't recommend wearing porous gems to a beach or hot climates.

METAL & GEMSTONES

18CT GOLD & ROSE GOLD VERMEIL

Most of our jewellery is handcrafted in 18ct gold vermeil (pronounced ‘ver-may’). But what does it mean, and how is it different to gold plated?

In simplest terms, jewellery crafted in gold vermeil has a thicker layer of gold added to the base of sterling silver (the thickness of the gold must be a minimum of 2.5 microns to be classed as gold vermeil).

The plating process is different as well - gold vermeil is plated with a process known as ‘electrolysis’, making the jewellery very durable.

STERLING SILVER

All our sterling silver jewellery is rhodium plated. This added bit of luxury (it's a member of the platinum family) provides a strong and protective layer against tarnishing and adds lustre and durability. Rhodium plating gives these silver pieces their shine, and ensures they don't scratch, dent, or corrode.

BEII STUDIO GEMSTONES

We source the semi-precious gemstones and crystals for our jewellery for their clarity and depth of colour.

Our team then create distinct shapes and hand cuts to make all BEII STUDIO gemstones unique for us.

Each gemstone has a special colour, birthplace and story. Some are thought to hold special meaning and powers, and all of them share a common beauty.

CUBIC ZIRCONIA OR CZ

We use cubic zirconia stones in some of our jewellery for the lustre they give without the pricetag of diamonds.

They're a durable and affordable alternative to the diamond look and bring a beautiful shine to more delicate pieces.
